Incentives/rewards
Any business need motivation and inspiration to produce the best results in a very competitive market. Every day the challenge increase and competition get more severe. Therefore, we need more input and motivation from all sources, be it head office or ground staff.
When I worked at the South African Railways, they came out with a plan to involve artisans in their aim to save money. They would reward anyone who came with a plan to save money. I was working on couches and new there were expensive rubbers seals that we put on that were not really needed anymore. So I put in my writing and suggested that we do away with the rubber seals. It brought a saving of $1500 a month and $18000 a year. Needless to say I received a nice certificate and a handful of money for my suggestion. I felt good because not only did I get money for my effort but were noticed and helped save money for the company.
So when you have a business, or you are in a high position, do not overlook the ordinary guy in your business. They see what you don’t see and move where you don’t. Sometimes they hold the key to success.
I was working with learner engineers. One came to me and said he must sort out a store full of machinery I must help him. I told him to go to the store man and get info from him. He thought it was a bad idea. He will sort it out better than the store man can. When he came there it was chaos. Eventually he had to go to the store man and in a few hours it was all settled. As soon as pride was out of the way the job could be done. We can learn from any- and everyone. We must be wake up. Whatever it takes to create money will be best for your company.
By engaging and rewarding the people who keep your workload going at a profitable level you unlock their full potential and enhance your business in every way possible.
